Backhaus Shows a Bluff

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Sandro Carucci was in the small blind and already had a raise of 4,800 in front of him. Dennis Backhaus made it 8,600 to go from the big blind and Carucci called.

Carucci check-called a 5,500 bet from Backhaus on the 5107 flop and checked again on the 6 turn.

Backhaus bet enough to put Carucci all in for his last 30,400, sending Carucci into the tank.

"I needed to see a heart on the turn," Carucci said before sending his cards into the muck.

Backhaus turned over AQ for just ace-high before collecting the pot.

Mark Grimm had raised his button when Brandon Hamlet three-bet in the small blind. Grimm responded with a four-bet to 13,000, but Hamlet wanted to have the last word as he five-bet to 26,000.

Grimm quickly laid his hand down, giving the hand up preflop.

Serhii Popovych
Serhii Popovych

Serhii Popovych limped under the gun, Mike Dentale limped in the hijack, and Anthony Mullen limped in the cutoff before Rami Ilyasov bumped it up to 1,600 from the button. When it got back to Popovych, he limp-raised to 6,600, and only Ilyasov called.

On the 1032 flop, Popovych continued his aggression with a bet of 8,800, and Ilyasov called again.

Popovych then slowed down with a check on the 6 turn, and Ilyasov was content to do the same.

The river brought the 9 as Popovych announced a bet of 18,000, and Ilyasov instantly flicked in a chip to call. Popovych tabled J9 for the rivered second pair, but it was second-best to the Q10 of Ilyasov, who flopped top pair and won a massive pot as the other members of the table traded confused looks at one another.

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Around 10,000 was in the pot as Jared Jaffee and Benjamin Grise went to the turn on a board of K898. Jaffee then bet 6,400 from middle position, and Grise called in early position.

The river was the 8 and Jaffee moved all in. Grise quickly called for his last 30,000 and turned over AK for a full house, but Jaffee had KK for kings full to win the pot and send Grise to the rail.

Daniel Dorf in the small blind bet 5,000 on a board of 8Q95A with 10,000 in the pot. Oliver Entine in the big blind raised to 12,000, so Dorf went deep into the tank.

He eventually decided to call, but saw exactly what he didn’t want to see in QQ for a set for Entine.
