Spirins Leads After Day 1a as Wynn Summer Classic $10,000 Championship Gets Underway

Pavels Spirins

From a field of 173 players on Day 1a of the Wynn Summer Classic $10,000 Championship, just 64 advanced to Day 2.

They are led by Latvia's Pavel Spirins from Bill Klein, the only two players to bag above 300,000 in chips. As expected, plenty of big names feature in the list of survivors including Thomas Eychenne and Artur Martirosian who sit among the top ten.

Mehmet Siginc Takes Home $28,709 After Deal In Big O Event

Wynn Poker Tables
Wynn Poker Tables

Mehmet Siginc and Darin Utley cut a two-way deal once the $1,100 Big O event at the Wynn Summer Classic reached heads-up play.

The event attracted 147 entrants, so had a prize pool of $143,325. This far exceeded the $50,000 guaranteed by the Wynn and meant that Siginc earned $28,709 from his deal as well as winning the trophy for coming first.

Utley earned a little less than Siginc in the deal but not by much — he got $28,212 for second place.

Tsz Shing, who busted in 3rd place, took home $22,365.

Big O is an increasingly popular 5-card variant of pot limit Omaha Hi-Lo. The Wynn Summer Classic has two events of this poker variant this year. Based on the success of these events, it seems likely that Big O is here to stay.
