One For Zaichenko

Praz Bansi raised to 350 in middle position and was called by Andrey Zaichenko in the hijack. Bruno Fitoussi popped it to 1,075 in the cutoff, receiving a call from the player in the big blind. Bansi ducked out of the way, Zaichenko called, and a {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop fell.

Action was checked to Fitoussi who bet 1,525. The player in the big blind called, but Zaichenko had other plans. He check-raised to 4,300, resulting in two very quick folds from his opponents.

Blom Sliding

Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Picking up the action on an {A-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, Viktor Blom check-raised an opponent's bet of 700 to 2,000. A call from Blom's opponent delivered the {8-Clubs} on the turn and Blom bet 3,250. A quick call from his opponent followed by the {3-Clubs} river led to two quick checks.

Blom's opponent tabled {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush, besting the Swede's holdings.

Selbst Sinking?

Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst ins't having a great day here in Deauville.

A quick count of her stack showed she's already given away more than 10k from her 30k starting stack.

A 400-chip early position raise was enough to take the blinds moments ago and get her a little back, but she's still got a long way to go.

Shorr's Two Pair Falls Short

Shannon Shorr raised to 350 in the cutoff and was called by the players on the button and in the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} and the big blind checked to Shorr who bet 625. The button called, the big blind folded, and the {10-Hearts} hit the turn. Both checked, landing the {3-Hearts} on the river. Shorr bet 1,100 and was met with with a quick call.

Shorr tabled {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for two pair, but his opponent showed {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} for a flush to win the pot.

Would you like your McLuck Super-Sized, Mr McClung

Christopher McClung came up to us and said that he might be the current chip leader on 80,000, and we didn't disagree.

He got there by calling a four-bet with five-deuce suited, flopping a flush, and getting a player with pocket aces (plus flush draw) to stick all his chips in. Easy game.

Early Eliminations

The tournament field is a bit less pink as Guillaume Darcourt has busted early in Level 2.

Wrong Way ElkY

ElkY
ElkY

Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is headed in the wrong direction here in Deauville.

After betting 500 chips into a 1k pot on an {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board and getting a single caller, Grospellier checked the {10-Diamonds} river.

His opponent bet 1,200, ElkY made a reluctant call and after he was shown {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}, he mucked.

The Frenchman's stack is now down under 25k.

Engel Pushes One Out

Catching up with the action on an {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop with three players in the pot, Ari Engel checked. The next player to act bet 1,550, the third player in the hand folded, and Engel bumped it to 4,200. The bettor called to see the {8-Spades} turn where Engel bet 6,725. His opponent gave it some thought, but ultimately gave it up.

Fitoussi Starts Fast

The former card room manager of Paris' famed Aviation Club is off to a fast start here in Deauville.

Just before the first level ended he was seen making it 575 from middle position, getting called down by just one opponent in the cutoff. They both checked the {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, but Fitoussi fired 1,025 at the {a-Diamonds} turn.

The Cutoff called and when Fitoussi threw out 2,200 at the {10-Clubs} river, he called again, only to muck when Bruno turned over {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.
