Shannon Shorr raised to 3,500 in middle position and Michael Dyer called from the big blind as the tournament chip leader. The flop came {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Dyer check-called a bet of 3,500 from Shorr.

The turn brought the {5-Hearts} and Dyer checked again. Shorr sized up a bet of 12,500 on the turn and Dyer thought for a minute before finally throwing away his cards.

Last Break of the Night

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The field has been whittled down to just 140 players thus far and they are heading on their last 15-minute break of the night. This will also mark the end of late registration for this flight with just two levels remaining in the night.

Jacobson Moves Over 100K

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Martin Jacobson opened to 2,500 in middle position and the big blind ripped all in for just under 15,000. Jacobson snap-called and the cards were on their backs.

Big blind: {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Martin Jacobson: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Jacobson was ahead but his opponent held live cards looking for a double-up. The board ran out eight-high and Jacobson's ace-king was enough to send his opponent to the rail.

Updated Chip Counts Before Final Break

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Riess Picks Up a Pot

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

In a heads-up pot with close to 40,000 in the middle on a board showing {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}, the big blind checked to Ryan Riess in the hijack who bet out 15,000. The big blind tossed in chips for the call and the {9-Hearts} hit the river.

Both players elected on a check and the cards were tabled. The big blind rolled over {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a missed flush draw and Riess opened {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} for a pair of jacks and the winning hand.

"Where was the jack on the river?" questioned the big blind while Riess laughed and collected his chips.

Palma Puts the Pressure on Shing

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Nick Palma
Nick Palma

There was a raise to 2,500 from under the gun and Nick Palma called on his left. The button also came along until Philip Shing reraised to 13,300 in the big blind. Only Palma called and they went heads-up to a flop of {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}.

Shing led out with a bet of 8,500 and Palms stuck around for the {8-Spades} on the turn. Shing checked this time and Palma seized the opportunity to fire out a bet of 23,500. Shing went into the tank for a couple of minutes but eventually called.

The {q-Hearts} completed the board and Shing checked again. Palma reached back for a bet of 44,800 and Shing thought for another minute before dumping his cards to the muck.

A Few Late Additions

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Jeremy Ausmus, Nick Schulman, and Ben Yu are just a few of the late additions to the Day 1a field along with some more who have reentered. Late registration will be open until after the next break with two more levels following that before the end of the day.

"You Run Too Good"

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The action was picked up in a pot of close to 10,000 on a board showing {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. Chance Kornuth bet out 8,700 from the hijack and Mike Dentale made the call next to act.

The {j-Hearts} completed the board and Kornuth slowed down with a check. Dentale took a few seconds before eventually checking back to a showdown.

Kornuth rolled over {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for flopped two-pair and Dentale flashed {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} before tossing them into the muck.

"You run too good, that's why I didn't bet", said Dentale while Kornuth smiled and collected the pot.
