Clock Called, But On Who?
Jordan Schneider raised to 5,000 in middle position, and Justin Smith called on the button, tempting the big blind to join in as well.
When the action checked to Schneider on a 9♣Q♣A♣ flop, he bet 6,000. Smith called, but the big blind folded.
Then came the standoff. After several minutes passed with neither player showing any intention of acting, another player at the table called the clock.
Schneider was surprised to learn that it was called on him, as Smith hadn't acted yet.
"I'm on the button," Smith told Schneider.
With the button placed precariously between seats five and six, Schneider believed Smith was in the small blind. Once it was cleared up, Schneider bet 16,500, and Smith quickly folded.
Schneider apologized to the table as he pulled in the pot.
