Vang Bluffs Melander Out

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We found Todd Melander deep in the tank against an all-in wager from Kou Vang. The Mid-States Poker Tour team pro was all in for what looked to be a bit more than 11,000, and Melander double-checked and recapped his cards as he continued to tank. He shrugged and finally folded after a couple of minutes. Vang tossed {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} into the middle for a missed combo draw.

At another table, Iowa native Jeff Fielder has hopped into the tournament.

Tour pro Blake Bohn has already busted his first bullet. We didn't catch the action, but he had {a-}{6-} in front of him, good for aces up, but Harry Behling had better aces up with {a-}{q-}.

Another Huge Flop for Harris

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Lance Harris bet 1,800 from the small blind on a board of {j-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and was called by his opponent in middle position. On the {4-Spades} river, Harris bet 6,600, and he was again called, though this time the player took much longer. Harris turned over {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} for top boat.

"Trips and full houses every time," Harris' bewildered opponent said. "You can write this guy only plays the nuts, he's not gonna get any action."

"Perfect," Harris said with a smile. "I won't have it that time."

Harris Gets Paid Off

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Lance Harris was on the button, and his small blind opponent checked to him on the end after the board came {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Harris bet 3,250, and his opponent called after about 30 seconds. Harris showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and took the pot with top set. Harris must be getting the best of it early at his table, and at least one player jokingly voiced his displeasure.

"Can we get a table change for Lance?" the player called.

Harris, a Minnesota-based pro, earned about $150,000 at this summer's World Series of Poker in a run that included fourth and a 10th.

Johnson Goes Bet-Three-Bet

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a board of {6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, Aaron Johnson bet 2,225 from the cutoff against a lone opponent on the button. The player there tossed out 4,000, not enough for a raise, and there was a pause as the player put out the necessary amount for a min-raise. Johnson then came back with 13,300, and the player quickly called.

Johnson showed {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for top set, and his opponent's cards hit the muck.
